The challenge was to develop a scalable system for a wide EV charging network across Belgium and the Netherlands that delivers real-time station availability and location information. It needed to ensure secure authentication, handle high transaction volumes, and enable seamless communication between multiple operators using the OCPI protocol, providing users with a smooth and reliable charging experience.
The proposed solution entails the complete implementation of OCPI (Open Charge Point Interface) features and protocols. The OCPI protocol, a pivotal aspect of this solution, serves as an open interface facilitating seamless connections between charge station operators and service providers. With the essence of automated roaming for electric vehicle (EV) drivers across multiple charging networks, OCPI enhances the accessibility and affordability of charging infrastructure, offering EV owners the flexibility to charge across diverse networks. The protocol supplies essential charge station data, encompassing location, accessibility, and pricing, while also catering to real-time billing and mobile accessibility. A core element involves establishing authentication and trust mechanisms among energy consumers, fostering secure interactions. This solution further incorporates robust reporting capabilities, delivering metrics and usage data insights. Leveraging a Push + Pull OCPI model, it efficiently captures usage data, facilitating smooth interactions within the system. Credential, location, session, and CDR (Charge Detail Record) management play integral roles in this solution, ensuring streamlined operations. Tariff and token management systems contribute to the versatility of the infrastructure, and efficient commands management enhances user control.
